This 7 day Uganda Gorilla Safari starts and ends in Uganda's capital Kampala. This gorilla safari starts with a chimpanzee tracking safari in Kibale Forest with its 13 species of primate including the chimpanzee. Tracking the noisy chimpanzee families racing through this verdant forest is a thrilling experience. Within te forest, the safari will inolve you in several tourist activities that include birding within Bigodi Wetland nearby, Guided Nature Walks and Local Community Tours. Other possible safari activities that can be carried out in this forest include the Trekking, Forest Walks, Hiking etc.
The gorilla safari later takes you to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a savanna park in Western Uganda. On the savannah plains below the Rwenzoris, see the great game of Africa in the magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park that include elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos and leopards. From this park you will also track the fast moving and elusive chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge nearby.
The safari will end in Bwindi Gorilla Forest where you will track the endangered mountain gprillas from one of the four habituated families. Seeing some of the last remaining 700 mountain gorillas in the world is a fantastic and awesome experience of this Uganda Gorilla Safari
UGANDA GORILLA SAFARI ITINERARY
Day 1: Kampala - Kibale Forest
Get briefed anout the Uganda Gorila Safari. Start with our safari guide for Fort Portal located in western Uganda passing via the town of Mubende set in rolling hills. Picnic lunch en route and continue to Kibale Forest located in Western Uganda. On your arrival late afternoon, relax at safari lodge or explore nearby Crater Lakes region of Western Uganda. Dinner and Overnight at Ndali Safari Lodge /Primates Safari Lodge (FB).
Day 2: Chimpanzee Safari in Kibale Forest
After breakfast, our safari guide will transfer you from the safari lodge to the Kanyanchu headquarters. After getting briefed about chimpanzee tracking track the noisy chimps and other primates crashing around through the high canopy of the forest with colorful birds squawking nearby. Packed lunch. Afternoon walk in Bigodi to see swamp birds and see some of the community projects financed by tourism. Dinner and Overnight at Ndali Safari Lodge /Primates Safari Lodge (FB).
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, drive straight to Queen Elizabeth National Park located on the foothills of Mount Rwenzori in Western Uganda. On the drive keep an eye out on the wild game found in this beautiful safari destination. The game seen will depend on the season, the Kasenyi plains are good for lions and the Mweya peninsula for a variety of animals. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge /Jacana Safari Lodge / Institute of Ecology (FB)
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking Safari through Kyambura
An excursion to Kyambura gorge nearby to track the fast moving and elusive chimpanzees, one of man's closest relations. The chimp population is quite mobile and viewing is unpredictable but the walk is enchanting. Alternatively go for a nature walk in Maramagambo Forest to see other primates and to visit the bat cave and the blue lake. In the afternoon take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel where the wildlife and a vast array of birds come to drink. Dinner and overnight at Mweya/Jacana/ Institute of Ecology (FB).
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Gorilla Forest
Start for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest loated in south Western Uganda. Either drive via Ishasha, home of the tree climbing lions, roads permitting, or take the alternative route through rural cultivated expanses of Western Uganda. Time permitting, go for a short stroll around the Safari Lodge or explore the village. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort / Buhoma Homestead (FB).
Day 6: Gorilla Tracking Safari through Bwindi Forest
After breakfast, our safari guide will transfer you to the park headquaters. After getting briefed about gorilla tracking in the ancient forest, go gorilla tracking within the montane forest. A gorilla safari through the forest is quite interesting filled with walking up steep densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. Tracking in Bwindi Gorilla Forest requires stamina and can often take most of the day. After the gorilla trek, go for a leisurely nature or community walk. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort / Buhoma Homestead (FB).
Day 7: End of Uganda Gorilla Safari
Early start for Kampala, retracing your steps through this green and pleasant land. of Western Uganda. Picnic lunch en route. Arrive in Kampala late afternoon (HB).
