UGANDA GORILLA TOUR - 12 DAYS GORILLA TOUR IN UGANDA
Day 1 Murchison Falls National Park
Our tour representative and guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala and drive you to northwestern Uganda. Moving through a sequence of districts with fertile soils, farmland, woodland and papyrus swamps. In most savanna areas you will notes herds of Ankole cattle with magnificent horns. You will pass via the famed Luwero Triangle Have lunch en route and then continue to Murchison Falls. On your way you will go through the open savanna woodland and extensive grassland. The drive on the southern part of the park is more less a vegan tour because animals can’t cross the Victoria Nile. Drive to the top of the falls where the White Nile is plunged into a 7 metre wide rock gorge on its way to the Albert Nile. So stunning!!! Drive and check in Paraa safari Lodge /Nile safari camp for high end / sambiya River Lodge/Red Chillis camp for dinner and over night.
Day 2 Game drives/ Launch cruise
Wake up very early in the morning and take a cup of coffee as you prepare for an early morning game drive in the Northern part of Murchison falls national park. In this cool morning before the sun rises too high , you will expect encounters of herds of Buffaloes, Elephants, Rothschild’s giraffe, prides of lions, the Illusive leopard, Oribis, Hartebeests, Waterbucks, Kobs, watch elephants as they graze on the grassy hillsides and many bird species like the Nightjar. Back in time for late breakfast. Then after relax as you wait for lunch. In the afternoon, you will take a launch cruise along the Victoria Nile to the bottom of the falls, watch families of Hippos relaxing by the Nile bank, Nile crocodiles will be incubating eggs, as lots of birds stand on the backs of these mammals. You will return to your lodge for dinner and over night.
Day 3 To Kibale National park
Depart at 7a.m if you slept at Paraa safari Lodge, You will have to cross the ferry again to the southern bank ready to travel to Kibale Forest National Park. Drive past Lake Albert en route to Hoima. Stop at the escarpment to have a superlative view over the lake and the distant mountains of Congo. Continue to Fort Portal for late lunch and check in at the Ndali lodge/ Primates Lodge / Rwenzori View guest House/ Kanyankyu River Camp.
Day 4 Chimpanzee tracking Kibale
On this day, we will assemble at Kanyankyu River camp at 0800hours to go for the most popular activity in this park which is Chimpanzee tracking. Chimpanzees are man’s closet cousins however they are one of the most threatened primate’s species. More primates like Black and white Columbus monkeys, L’Hoest Monkeys, Grey cheecked Mangabey, Red tailed monkeys, bush babies, pottos and many bird species like the yellow spotted nicator, rumped tinker bird, Little greenbul, green breasted pitta, the crowned eagle, black bee eater and mammals like Elephants can be seen in this walk. Return to your lodge for Lunch. At the Eastern edge of Kibale forest is Bigodi Wetland sanctuary which is maintained by the local community. Go for a nature walk in this swamp which is rich in biodiversity. You will expect birds like the great Blue turaco, blue monkeys, baboons, otters, mangoose, bush bucks, bush pigs and among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and over night.
Day5 TO Queen Elizabeth National park
Take break fast very early in the morning and leave this park for Queen Elizabeth National Park, Visit the crater lakes region and then after check in your lodge. Walk around the Mweya peninsula if you have chosen to stay at Mweya safari Lodge. In the afternoon you will go for an after noon launch cruise along the kazinga channel. This will expose you to a diversity of Hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes and bird species like the African Skimmer, papyrus gonelek, the martial eagle, fish eagle, if you are lucky the shoe bill stork and many other Bird species. Queen Elizabeth is know as the birder’s paradise because of it’s diversity of birds. Dinner and over night at Mweya Safari Lodge / Jacana safari Lodge/ the Institute of Ecology.
Day 6 Nature walks in Maramagambo Forest
This morning you will wake up very Early in the morning , take a cup of coffee and drive to spot the early risers’ animals in this park like Spotted Hyenas, Leopards, Lions searching for prey, antelopes running away from Lions and making alert sounds to inform their fellow parties that there is danger or an enemy. Return to the lodge for mid morning breakfast. Take time to relax by the swimming pool with a view of the lakes. In this after noon, you will go for a nature walk in the Maramagambo forest. Many surprises await you in this rain forest with a diversity of short guided walks. Pythons are often observed in the crevices of the bats cave as they prey on bats. In this walk you will see the picturesque Blue lake-Kimeranjojo which got its name after swallowing an Elephant. Other trails will lead you to the Crater Lake and habitats of the Wild chimps and forest bird. Return to the lodge for dinner and over night.
Day 7 Penetrate Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Wake up very early in the morning and move to Kyambura River gorge for Chimpanzee Tracking. This steep Kyambura gorge was formed by a turbulent water of the roaring Kyambura River. It provides a lush riverine forest which is a home to Chimpanzees, the red tailed monkeys, Colobus monkeys, Olive baboons, and many forest birds. This guided nature walk offers great chances of tracking habituated chimpanzees in their natural habitats. Depending on the weather and the time left, you will drive through the Ishasha sector Opportunities of seeing tree climbing lions are great. Have lunch en route / a picnic lunch if you got packed lunch you’re your hotel and then after drive to Bwindi Impenetrable forest. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort camp/ Gorilla Forest camp/ Buhoma homestead/ L. Kitandara luxury tented camps/ Buhoma rest camp.
Day 8 Gorilla tracking
This is one of the awaited for day with one of the highlight activities of this tour. Well prepared with you packed lunch, cameras, water, rain jackets, long pair of trouser and jungle boots on, you will assemble for briefing from the rangers about gorilla tracking the great adventure and experience! The time taken to encounter these peaceful primates is unpredictable for it may take1-10 hours. Nevertheless, on encounter, one may be forced to say, it is stunning!!!! After the adventure a certificate awaits the successful tracker. The day is not easy at times but appealing. Return to your lodge for dinner and over night.
Day 9 L. Bunyonyi
Leave Bwindi for Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale. This lake got its name from the many small birds in its surroundings. Have fun as you ride on a local canoe ride on this beautiful narrow lake surrounded by green hills. Dinner and overnight at Habuharo Island or Bushara Island.
Day 10 L. Bunyonyi
Take breakfast and later visit the villages around Kabale. Visit the museum and shop some souvenirs there. Have lunch and then take a boat ride on this lake. You will then relax at the Island. Return back for dinner and over night.
Day 11 L. Mburo
Early morning drive to Lake Mburo, the home of Zebras, the Legendary Eland, Topis, and many other animals. Stop in Mbarara for lunch and proceed to the tented camp or the bands. Take an afternoon game drive; expect to see Impalas, Zebras, Warthogs, Topis, Oribis Elands, and a variety of birdlife. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 12 Kampala
Indulge in an early morning nature walk to the Hyena’s den, itinerant from beginning to end of the acacia woodland feeling the touch of the diverse flora and the calls of Zebras. Return for breakfast at the tented camp and drive back to Kampala. Have a stop over at Masaka for lunch and at Equator for pictures and souvenirs .If your flight back home is on this day, you will then have to be transferred to Entebbe International airport for your next flight back home.
